You hear a news report and judge a set of printed statements about it as true or false. The report is in the style of broadcast news: formal vocabulary, figures, sources and dates.
The statements check the facts that carry the story — what changed, by how much, according to whom, and why. Numbers and trends are the usual traps: a statement may get the topic right and the direction or size of the change wrong.
The instruction on the paper
听新闻,判断下面的句子是否符合原文。
Listen to the news report and decide whether each sentence matches it.
HSK 7, 8 and 9 are one exam. Everyone sits the same paper and the score decides which of the three levels is awarded, so this part is the same whichever of them you are aiming for.

10. It is part 1 of 5 in the HSK 8 Listening section, which has 40 questions and lasts about 30 minutes, for 100 points.
How is HSK 8 Listening Part 1 marked?
Automatically. Every question has one correct answer and all carry the same weight. A wrong answer costs nothing more than a blank one, so never leave a question empty.
How many times is each recording played at HSK 8?
Once. At HSK 8 each recording is played a single time, so read the options before it starts.
Is pinyin printed at HSK 8?

Is the vocabulary harder than elsewhere in the section?
It is more formal. News uses written-style words — 近日, 据悉, 同比 — you may know from reading but rarely hear in conversation.

Several, usually around five per report.
