Structure, scoring and format — exactly as the exam runs it. This section follows the level picked in the header.

- Every section is scaled to 100 points; the written total is 300.
- Pass at 180/300 — 60% of the total, with no per-section minimum.
- No negative marking — a wrong answer costs nothing beyond the missed point, so never leave a blank.
- Speaking is marked by an examiner and reported on a separate certificate, outside the written total.
- Recordings play once, at natural pace.
- Characters only — no pinyin is printed from level 3.
- Handwritten characters are assessed in the writing section.
- Offered computer-based and paper-based; the paper exam adds answer-transfer time after listening.
